Work Hard, Young Legend

The offseason is here for Reds fans. We must suffer through another agonizing postseason only imagining what it could be like if we were part of it. It seems like a mirage. Does the postseason and playoff games and all that good stuff really exist for teams like the Reds too? Could it really ever be a reality?

It could be for sure. But if it’s going to be in the near future, our dude is going to have to play a big part in it. We need you next year Jay Bruce. You finished with 22 homers, 58 RBI, and .223 for the year. Sure it was short of short of the lofty expectations. But it’s understandable. The horrifying injury, bad luck, and having a manager who hit you with no protection all year long. The power numbers were without a doubt still impressive. The defense was amazing. There was plenty of bright spots.

But we need you next year. We don’t need MVP numbers, we need .260-.270, 30 homers, and 90 RBI. Just healthy progress. So this offseason we hope you find it within yourself to go harder then you ever have. Train like a madman out in Texas. Hit until your hands bleed like the legends of yesteryear did. Exhaust every avenue to get better and be the franchise, because this franchise needs you more then it ever has. An entire fan base rests its hopes on you (and Votto, Bailey, and Cueto among others of course).

We love ya Jay, and you’ve got the chance to be as big of a star as Cincinnati has ever seen. That opportunity is right in front of you. We believe in you, always. Let’s make 2010 a special year. It starts now brother.
