Young Reds play spoiler in Milwaukay

Chances are this is one of the more fun games that Dusty Baker managed in all year. The Reds trailed the Brewers at Miller Park 4-1 for the entire ballgame, but the Reds would hang tough and deliver a crushing blow to a contending team for the second straight day.
Solomon Torres loaded the bases in the 9th with the Reds down 4-2, this occurring with a Jay Bruce single to right to start the inning, followed up by Wilkin Castillo’s single to left. Chris Dickerson then pinch-hit for Paula Bako and the bases were loaded with no one out. Corey Patterson infield-singled in Bruce to make it 4-3, and Keppinger doubled to the downs in left field to make it a 5-4 ballgame, a score that would be the final.
Joey Votto also homered in the 8th inning of this ballgame off Brewers mediocre but somehow good starter Dave Bush. Edison Volquez struck out double-digits for the second straight time.

Jared Burton picked up the 5th victory of his season while CoCo Cordero picked up his 28th save against his old mates. Bruce went 2 for 3 with a walk, double, and 2 runs scored. Keppinger is now 11 for 21 in his career with the bases loaded.

Jerry Hairston was activated from the DL before this game.

Quotes:
“If this was the last game of the season and prevented us from going to the playoffs then everybody would be crying. But, now, we still have time,” he said. “We can’t let this bother us. As much as we wanted to come out on top, it didn’t happen.””If this was the last game of the season and prevented us from going to the playoffs then everybody would be crying. But, now, we still have time,” he said. “We can’t let this bother us. As much as we wanted to come out on top, it didn’t happen.” –Solomon Torres (who ironically and unfortunately knows all about losing and crying on the last day of the season)
