My Thoughts on the Reds demotion of Jay Bruce

Earlier last week the Reds decided to send Jay Bruce down to AAA Louisville. He hit only in the .260’s for the spring in a plethora of at-bats. Point blank, Bruce had to have an all-world spring to make this team after Dusty Baker was hired; he did not. I’m a huge Bruce fan. I think he can be one of the greatest if not the best Red to ever play for them in my lifetime. I think he can make a realistic run at 3,000 hits: I said it. But Dusty Baker favors veteran players and he’d rather play a guy like Corey Patterson who’s flopped his entire big league career. Fine. Let’s see what Patterson can do.

Jay Bruce will be up soon enough, and pundits like me just have to try and be patient. It’s hard to understand playing experience over talent when we don’t have a World Series contender that is built to win (at least I didn’t think). I would think that it was a good time to get Bruce’s feet wet here at the Major League level; same could be said to a minor degree with giving Josh Fogg a roster spot over Homer Bailey.

One thing is for sure, when Bruce debuts in Cincinnati; I’ll be there scalping a ticket as if I were his daddy.
