It was Labor Day in MLB, and although the league gave it little mention, some cool things happened around the game on this Monday in September.
First, on Sunday Byron Buxton helped the Minnesota Twins defeat the Detroit Tigers by beating out an infield walk-off single.
On Sunday, he collected two hits including a no doubt bomb to left field.
The home run was Buxton’s 6th of the short season. Although he’s struggled to stay healthy, when he’s on the field he’s the definition of ‘impact’.
Finally, the Twinkies are 26-17 and looking to take a division title. With the American league in complete shambles, it seems like everyone is discounting them a little bit. Right now, it seems conceivable that they could give a Tampa Bay Rays team some fits.
Minnesota has a little bit of everything, including a guy in Buxton who can really get after it. Right now he is the definition of a 5-tool player.
