2020 National League MVP Odds

Recently, the odds came out for baseball’s 2020 award winners. If I am not giving it away, I am leaning heavily on 2018’s NL MVP Christian Yelich in terms of value. Still, oddsmakers have all the horses at the top of the card when it comes to 2020 NL MVP Odds.

Take a look at the odds for the upcoming year in the tweet below:

Now, Ronald Acuña Jr. is the hot pick on the list, checking in at +300. Obviously, I think Acuña is an excellent bet after seeing how easily he almost hit 40-40 last season. Still just 22 years old during this year, he’s going to be an incredible talent for a long time. He seems like the ‘safe’ pick, and he falls in a rightful spot.

But he will have challengers, and this loaded field suggests that. Yelich in his own right almost won back-to-back MVP awards if not for an injury. He’s an incredible offensive player, and there is nothing that suggests he will be anything less than that in the upcoming season. In terms of value, I would put a few units on Yelich and sprinkle some on Kris Bryant at +2000.

It’s interesting to note that last year’s winner Cody Bellinger is +800. While not a total longshot, this is a little odd for a guy who had such a great year in winning his first MVP award in 2019. This suggests that oddsmakers – or the people who will be betting – might not yet trust in Bellinger’s abilities.

To see a guy like Fernando Tatis Jr. ranked where he is with the small track record suggests that casinos may be hedging their bets; this kid is going to be better than a lot of people ever imagined.

Those are the early items that jump out at me.
