NY Daily News: Roberto Alomar has AIDS

Fans of the baseball world woke up to some shocking news this morning coming from the New York Daily News:

Baseball great Roberto Alomar has full-blown AIDS but insisted on having unprotected sex, his ex-girlfriend charged Tuesday in a bombshell lawsuit.

The shocking claim was leveled by Ilya Dall, 31, who said she lived with the ex-Met for three years and watched in horror as his health worsened.

Either his former girlfriend is really trying to get back at the guy, or the former legendary second baseman is a very sick man.

The couple went to see a disease specialist who discovered a mass in the retired second baseman’s chest, the court papers say.

Alomar’s skin had turned purple, he was foaming at the mouth and a spinal tap “showed he had full-blown AIDS,” the suit says.

Alomar, 41, who quit baseball over health issues in 2005, could not be reached for comment.

At this point it sure doesn’t sound good. It’s weird to think of a guy who at the beginning of the decade was in top physical condition could be destroyed right now by a disease like AIDS. It’s also obvious that if Alomar has the disease we will not know about it until he has passed, with Alomar probably being too proud to deny or confirm the report. You’d think if it was a wash though, that someone on Alomar’s behalf would speak up immediately and say he doesn’t have the disease.

Reminds us a lot of the rumors we heard about former Cleveland Brown Eric Turner having stomach cancer several years back. Turner came out and said the news wasn’t true and a few weeks later he was dead.
