This is pretty cool, and MLB is finally doing a good job getting more eyes on the sport with some creative stuff. Furthermore, the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees will play at Field of Dreams Field in Iowa; the one from the movie. This will take place on August 13, 2020.
The Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees will play a regular season game in Dyersville, Iowa at the site of the beloved 1989 baseball movie, Field of Dreams, on Thursday, August 13, 2020, Major League Baseball announced today. “MLB at _Field of Dreams_” will mark the first Major League game ever held at the fan-favorite movie location as well as in the State of Iowa.
The game will air nationally that night on FOX – and if it doesn’t do big ratings – the sport can be considered as good as dead. Truly, this should appeal to any fan of baseball after the classic movie.
Rob Manfred is never the chief of the fun police, but he weighed in on it:
“As a sport that is proud of its history linking generations, Major League Baseball is excited to bring a regular season game to the site of Field of Dreams. We look forward to celebrating the movie’s enduring message of how baseball brings people together at this special cornfield in Iowa.”
No matter what is going on in my life a little over a year from this date, I’ll be watching this broadcast.
