Your nightly wrap and recap

Padres 10, Diamondbacks 5
The return of of the Big Unit in Arizona started just like old times but then became a stale reunion quickly. The veteran left-hander gave up six runs on six hits over five innings in his season debut. How weird is it seeing the Unit pitching in Arizona without any shades of purple?

Reds 10, Cardinals 3
Alex Gonzalez had a career night, hitting 2 homeruns, collecting 4 hits, and driving in 5 RBI. Ken Griffey Jr. added his 1st homerun of the season and 564th of his career. Aaron Harang improved to 3-0, oh and that Josh Hamilton kid we’re trying to get to the All-Star game? He had 2 more hits.

Indians 5, Twins 3
Travis Hafner homered off of Johann Santana, while the Indians young starter Fausto Carmona went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing only 2 earned runs. The Indians won their 4th game out of the last 5, and Joe Borowski already has 8 saves. Although they’ve played 3 fewer games the win on the road tied the Indians with the Twins for first place. Will they relinquish it back?

Devil Rays 6, Yankees 4
Derek Jeter left the game early due to being hit by a pitch. Chien Ming Wang gave up 4 earned runs in his return and picked up the loss. A-Rod’s 23 game hitting streak dating back to last season was snapped, which also meant he didn’t hit a homerun. The Yankees have now lost 5 ballgames in a row. Immediately following the loss, George Steinbrenner beat his St. Bernard; within inches of his own death.

Blue Jays 10, Red Sox 3
We knew it would happen sometime, last night at Fenway Park, Vernon Wells woke up. Wells went 4 for 5 with 4 runs scored and 3 RBI, including a homerun. Roy Halladay went 8 innings, striking out 10 and improving to 3-0. Julian Tavarez got the start for the Red Sox, and we’re sure you can imagine how that worked out.

Brewers 4, Cubs 1
Oh poor sweet Lou Piniella. What is wrong with the Cubs? Rich Hill proved to be human afterall, allowing a homerun to Prince Fielder. Jeff Suppan went 8 scoreless innings for the Brewers for the win. Milwaukee is quietly 13-7, coasting right now with a 3 game lead in an NL Central division that is beating up on eachother.
