Vlad, Jays Fall to Indians, but Vladdy Hits Again!

[Box Score]

After a hitless Sunday in Detroit, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. got back in the horse in Toronto on Monday night. Mike Clevinger brought the heat, and the Indians hit lasers all over the park.

But with Los Angeles off tonight, I watched this entire game. And mostly wanted to see Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Vladdy Jr. to see what kind of at-bats they had.

Guerrero singled the other way – and it looked like his first career hit. Tyler Naquin threw him out at second base (pictured above). He got into a 3-0 count and struck out on a slider in his second at-bat. In his third at-bat, he hit a first pitch laser single up the middle off Clevinger.

In all, he went 2 for 3 and continued to make some progress at the plate after a decent weekend in Detroit. The Indians won this game 7-3 and it was never really in doubt. One mark of Toronto in 2019 is they just kind of fail to compete. Other than a Justin Smoak bomb and the couple hits by Guerrero, they didn’t really cash in on threats.

Finally, this was a couple days ago; but probably my favorite two Toronto players to watch.
