Chris Sale traded to Red Sox for Yoan Mocada + Package

Finally the big deal shook loose: Chris Sale has been traded to the Boston Red Sox for prospects Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech, and two other prospects. This was reported shortly after 1:00 PM today.

I like the deal for both sides, arguably a little bit more for the White Sox who are now free to completely blow things up and get wild. I would have liked to have seen Moncada develop as a Red Sox player, but the fit is better for both sets of players in both new spaces.

I heard Peter Gammons talking about this on MLB Network Radio and he basically said that Chris Sale is going to be as terrifying as Randy Johnson when he pitches at Fenway Park, and that hitters will not be able to pick up the baseball from his delivery.

The Washington Nationals are left out in the cold to continue to mull trading for Andrew McCutchen. In the end, the White Sox appeared to prefer the package of Moncada and Kopech over Victor Robles and Lucas Giolito; and it’s hard to blame them.
