Tommy Lasorda Had a Mild Heart Attack Today

Well here’s about the most not cool news you can receive at the end of a work day, especially if you were a baseball fan who grew up during a chunk of the 80’s. Tommy Lasorda has been hospitalized with what is being called a “mild” heart attack.

Couple of things here:

  1. This is at least Lasorda’s second heart attack. He retired after having one in a 4-3 win over the Astros in 1997.
  2. As we’ve discussed here before, Lasorda is definitely a certifiable ‘Type-A’, making him higher risk.
  3. One time I was watching Howard Stern and Stuttering John interviewed Tom Lasorda to try and goad him a bit. He asked Tommy ‘do you still drink slim-fast again now that you’re fat’? Tommy got very defensive, which was the only part of the interview that was funny. He continually said ‘I’m not fat buddy, ya got it?’. Point of the story: Lasorda did struggle with weight at times.

Godspeed, Tommy. We’ll always remain big fans.
