Bobby Bo: The Charles Barkley of Baseball

I always kind of thought Bobby Bonilla was a parallel to Charles Barkley when I was a kid. A brash guy who had some good ability, but was never quite ‘the’ superstar of his sport. A guy who was on a fair amount of winning teams, but was never quite the #1 gun on those teams. They played during the same era, and I even thought they kind of looked alike.

And of course neither one was afraid to go after a reporter. Above is Bobby Bonilla in 1994 as a member of the New York Mets who underachieved. You know, the Rico Brogna Mets. Bobby Bo hit .290 that year and logged more plate appearances then any other member of the organization; but apparently on this day felt he was being unduly criticized. So he told him “maayn, get the f— up out my locka”. Barkley-esque.
