Dodgers or Nationals for Dunn

SI’s Jon Heyman is reporting that the Nationals are holding out hope to sign Adam Dunn to a contract after missing out on Mark Teixeira, the problem is that now the Dodgers have jumped into the mix after Manny Ramirez rejected their deal.

We’ve always said it over and over: Dunn will be a future Hall of Famer based on home run numbers alone. He should end up with over 600 career home runs. There was only one thing that could stop that, and that was injury. Now there’s something new.

Playing in Washington and Los Angeles won’t help his power numbers. Great move for the pocket book, poor move for your career and legacy. Dunn has barely eclipsed 40 home runs the past few years playing in Great American Small Park. Moving to either one of these parks might influence his season totals. If Dunn is going to end up with Hall of Fame credentials in the home run department, he’s going to need to keep banging out 40 dingers per season at least through his prime years until the age of 33 or 34.

Isn’t it ironic that if Dunn would have just stayed in Cincinnati (he wouldn’t hear anything of a 4 year, $40 million dollar deal) he’d probably have a better contract then he is going to end up with, stability, and better career numbers. My God it will pain us to see him elsewhere as we can’t find it in our hearts to not search him out in the box scores the morning after.
