Mets Prepare for Life Without Billy Wagner

Billy Wagner is now done for the season, and done for next season. Its definitely a blow to the Mets because Wagner has been a solid and constant veteran presence in Queens the past few years. From Metsblog:

In his two and a half seasons with the Mets, Wagner had a 2.38 ERA, in 118 save opportunities he converted 101, which is the fourth highest save total in baseball during that time.

They’re already kicking dirt on Wagner’s coffin. Mets fans are treating this like the loss of a close first cousin from the side of the family you love most. The Mets new closer is a guy named Luis Ayala, another tough lefty without Wagner-esque stuff.

Don’t plan on this being a postseason run for the Mets, but if it is they’ll do it without one of their biggest leaders.
