Jackie Robinson Day

Today Major League Baseball honors Jackie Robinson. 60 years ago today he became the first black player to play in the big leagues. Obviously, his contribution does not go unspoken, with all of baseball’s 30 teams honoring him by forever retiring his number. Today, select players were approved to wear the #42 for today’s contests, with Ken Griffey Jr., Barry Bonds, Andre Ethier, and the entire Dodgers squad in general to name a few. Diamond Hoggers just wanted to make the first post of the day a tribute to Mr. Robinson in appreciation to his contributions to the game today. Obviously had he never came along we wouldn’t have many of the great black players of today and yesteryear. The league would not be what it is today if it was just full of white players. Plus ‘Satchell Paige Day’ just doesn’t have as nice of ring to it.
