Mets: Pete Alonso Hits 5th Home Run of 2021 off Patrick Corbin

The New York Mets won on Sunday 4-0, settling in Patrick Corbin’s season ERA at over 10.00 for the year. The final blow was Pete Alonso’s fifth home run of the year that left the bat at 109.1 miles per hour.

The 26-year-old slugger reached base two more times via the walk and raised his slash line to .267/.349/.555 through 70 plate appearances after Sunday’s action.

Without question, Alonso seems to hit home runs in clusters as we learned in 2019. Therefore, it was Alonso’s third home run in his last five games played. While he’s not quite on 50 home-run pace, that could look a lot differently if he gets a few multi-home run games thrown in there.

I don’t know if power will be down across the board this season in baseball, but it seems like however many are hit, Alonso will find himself amongst the leader board at season’s end barring something strange.
