Blue Jays: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Heats Up With Monster Home Run

On Thursday, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a feast in a spring training exhibition for the Toronto Blue Jays. Obviously, it’s important to see some lead indicators from the big fella. Therefore, when he hit one over the batter’s eye in dead center and got some lift to it for his first home run of the spring, that certainly served as the point.

In all, Guerrero Jr. had three hits and four runs batted in. Notably, all three hits were over 100 MPH off the bat in statcast

His Manager Charlie Montoyo had some praise for his young slugger.

“He just feels good about himself right now,” said Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo. “He’s in great shape. He had a great offseason. Not only that, in the intrasquad game we had yesterday, he hit two home runs. His last five at-bats have been hard-hit balls like that. We know what he can do, so that’s a good sign for all of us.”

Now, I don’t think the Blue Jays are going to surprise anyone with their pitching. Moreover, I don’t think the George Springer acquisition vaults them into the playoffs or anything like that.

Still, it’s important that Guerrero Jr. leads the young core in taking the next step. It’s worth watching to see if he can continue to build upon a big spring that sees him hitting .500 at the current moment.
