It was back in the holiday season when I saw it, and I knew this guy was just built for Queens and New York.
This deli is life changing. You’re welcome. pic.twitter.com/KkTPDsIIod

Pete Alonso was shilling for a local NY pastrami deli. And I had already heard the quote by one of his teammates – maybe Jeff McNeil – that all he wanted to do was listen to Whitesnake and hit homers. And it was then that I decided that I really like Alonso.
The 25-year-old who forced NY to tune in & pay attention is entering his second year in the Major Leagues with a hunger for more — more wins, more home runs, more walks, more defensive stops, more intensity…
And more drunk celebrations, apparently: https://t.co/8icJRSzFT8

Now via the NY Daily News, Alonso has some quotes from Spring Training:
“There’s one goal and that’s to win a World Series,” Alonso said. “I want to be celebrating on a parade float drunk as hell. That’s the goal.”
That’s the biggest headline grabber.
“I want to keep pushing and get better,” he said. “I don’t want to feel complacent or comfortable. I had a really good year last year, but I want to be better. I want to see how far I can push myself because if you keep searching for new limits, you never know what could happen. I want to be the best version of myself every single day.”
Maybe he’s right-handed Jim Thome. Or maybe we were all fooled and he’s merely solid. Still, this is as interesting to me as the Mets have been in a long time. The archives at the place will be the ‘prove it’.
Can’t wait to see Big Meat Pete get after it here in a month or so.
