You reach a point in the Winter Meetings where it’s a fever pitch. Too much of an MLB frenzy to even cover it all, however I’ll try to hit the high-spots here. I wish I could sit around and just write about all the rumors all week. This is a cool time of year to love baseball.
Key read on the Blue Jays from Shi Davidi, basically the Jays are having trouble getting players to sign in Toronto which is no surprise.
“It’s not just as simple as choosing who we like and going to get them.” Why not? On the #BlueJays, their apparent strategy and the path to a seemingly inevitable result for this off-season: https://t.co/rTaVUMMfAX

Then, there’s manager Charlie Montoyo’s pitch. Seriously, imagine Montoyo sitting Scott Boras and Gerrit Cole down and showing them a power point of Rogers Centre.
#Bluejays manager Charlie Montoyo has been involved in the pitch to attract agents and players to T.O: "We made a video to show people how beautiful it is, what a beautiful country, what a beautiful stadium, the fans. It's just a great place to play."

When it comes to acquiring marquee free agents – even if the Blue Jays have the money to spend – it just seems like they’re beaten to the punch down to the guy managing the team.
Asked why he seems so encouraged when #BlueJays have yet to sign a free agent pitcher, Charlie Montoyo said "because I know how aggressive we've been."

The Blue Jays have a great young nucleus. But they’re not going to be able to bring in the tier-one free agents. They will need to focus on the Wade Miley’s of the group, and right now they’re not even securing those guys.
No one's ever been happier to be named baseball's 20th most handsome manager than Charlie Montoyo.

The Dodgers say that they’re in the mix – and Jon Heyman says they remain in the mix – on Anthony Rendon, Gerrit Cole, and Hyun-Jin Ryu.
Honestly, I don’t think the Dodgers will sign any of these guys. I think what Andrew Friedman said about the Dodgers being in good shape moving forward is how the organization feels, and the San Diego Padres are getting small wins along the way to catch them in 2020.

The Dodgers unveiled their new uniform, and it’s still the best in the game even with the Nike Swoosh.
In some of Tuesday’s biggest news, Ken Rosenthal reports the Astros are considering a trade of Carlos Correa.
Sources: #Astros, facing difficult payroll choices, have considered trading Carlos Correa. Story: https://t.co/MOy1UomqoC

Here was my take on it, it’s not too bad I don’t think.
Reading between lines. Correa will want a $400M deal. He’s prob worth $200-$250. The Astros probably don’t like the strange injury thing and other baggage (albeit minor) a ton. He probably doesn’t go anywhere unless return is insane. But just shows how fast anyone can go

Another angle to consider is that Astros players perhaps took a hit in terms of value with all the sign-stealing scandal stuff ongoing. While it sounds crazy, it’s all going to point towards Correa staying put for now but likely not signing a long-term extension.
Also, Mark Feinsand says the Astros are a mystery team for Gerrit Cole.
I'm hearing the Astros and Giants are the likely mystery teams for Cole, though multiple sources have major doubt either will be a serious player for the ace. Yankees, Angels and Dodgers still appear to be the most likely destinations for Cole.

Truly, I fucking hate this guy.
What makes Gerrit Cole the most valuable starting pitcher on the market?

It’s not the Winter Meetings that wears people out, it’s Boras. He should be required to wear devil horns from here forward when he speaks.
With Stephen Strasburg in full tow for 7-years, $245 million; they should just start talking Juan Soto extension right now. Instead, Mike Rizzo is posturing about the team still keeping Anthony Rendon. It seems like the Nats are big on saving face publicly.

I feel like the Padres are building a team that could win the division on 2020, and if the Dodgers don’t do something they just might be my pick. Right now, they’re looking at Whit Merrifield.
Whit Merrifield makes a lot of sense on the Padres. He makes a lot of sense on every team. Every team should want players like Whit Merrifield. But yes, the Padres should get Whit Merrifield. https://t.co/2Tjxm6wKxI

Think about it: Machado, Tatis Jr., Pham, Margo, all their other toys in the pitching staff and pen. I know I’m missing someone else, I guess Hosmer. The Padres are not far off right now.
