Joe Girardi out as Yankees Manager

Joe Girardi has been the only Yankees manager since this blog was created. There aren’t that many guys you can say that about. I can’t think of anyone still left, in fact.

On Thursday morning, the New York Yankees parted ways with Joe Girardi after ten seasons.

Girardi went 910-710 (.562) as the Yankees manager. He of course won the World Series with the Yankees in 2009, their last title.

There are some whispers that Girardi is no longer the choice for managerial post because he was too intense. Even though the Yankees overachieved in 2017, their roster is filled with a lot of youngsters and the Yankees brass probably thought a better fit could be found. It’s possible that the Yankees fill the position with a first-time manager who can grow with this young core.

There doesn’t seem to be a clear, apparent reason that the Yankees gave Girardi the old ‘thanks, no thanks’ and sent him on his way after a decade of pretty successful baseball. The details should come out, and now that we are back to writing about the Bombers more often; it will be an interesting offseason storyline to see who is added as the new Yankees manager.
