Edinson Volquez throws emotional no-hitter in Miami

Baseball can be so ironic. Here’s what he left on his instagram account this morning. It was a tribute to his friend and former teammate, Yordano Ventura. Ventura would have turned 26 today.

And then Volquez went out and threw a no-hitter against the Arizona DiamondBacks. The DiamondBacks came in as a hot team; but the Marlins are even hotter right now.

Volquez struck out 10 hitters, and walked two. He was absolutely dominant, setting down the side in the ninth. You just knew he was going to get it if you were watching. It was one of those moments; and ironically he’s the guy the Marlins ended up signing only because of the tragic death of Jose Fernandez.

Man, I really hope the Marlins roll through the summer as baseball’s best team somehow. They’re a lot of fun and they’re easy to root for. They lead baseball in those ‘give you chills’ moments over the past year, too.
