Your Saturday Baseball Post

It’s Saturday, the first Saturday of the season! I wish I could say we were just getting back from the beach, or something really new and fresh and exciting; but the big trip this morning was a farmer’s market. That’s how it goes when you’re in your mid-30’s and have kids. So in a way, this is the most exciting part of my day so far. And don’t try to make fun of me because ‘IDGAF’. I like it that way.

This post not only pays tribute to the best day of the week, the best sport of the week; and gains added significance because it’s actually during the regular season. But it’s a tribute to Don Rickles, AKA Billy Sherbert (Casino). He’s recently died. We loved Billy Sherbert. Great but unspectacular character in one of our favorite movies ever. And Hell, who knew; Rickles loved the Dodgers and they loved him. Helluva guy. Rest in Peace Sherbert.

Today and tonight boasts an interesting slate. You’ve of course got Kershaw going at Coors, Bumgarner against the Padres (I feel like the Padres could sneak attack him), and everyone is in play. If your fantasy teams suck already, I’m sorry about that.

Today’s 80’s song of the week that should be played on a ballpark loudspeaker nearest you is one of my top five favorites of all time. It’s been on here before. It’s by Mike and the Mechanics. I can’t hear this song enough times – and I heard it this morning – and that means it’s going to be a good day.

So enjoy your Saturday. Thank you for your continued support of Diamond Hoggers, where we are still trying to adjust to life without Vin Scully.
