Chris Sale’s Red Sox Debut; was holy-shit a wild one at Fenway

[Box Score]

[Joy of Sox]

The Red Sox and Pirates locked up in a wild one that went 12 innings, and seemed no one wanted to win. It was more a case of Jameson Taillon nearly matching Chris Sale step-for-step through seven innings.

Mookie Betts missed this game with the flu, as did Brock Holt. But the short-handed Red Sox were not going to be denied on this night.

Sandy Leon caught one off the sweet spot in the bottom of the 12th and sent a three-run homer over the green monster to win the game for the Red Sox 3-0.

Sale allowed three hits, walked one, struck out seven in his Boston debut. And the Red Sox are 2-0, basically on a pair of huge home runs. They seem to have a little early season magic going right now.

They wrap up the interleague series tomorrow with this Pirates team that doesn’t look like they’ll hit a lick all season.
