Last Night’s Wrap & Recap

Holy Moses was last night an absolutely crazy night for offense all around baseball. Here is a short blip and box score from each game as we paid attention to them:

Blue Jays 14, Reds 9
I’ve seen this game a thousand times in my life. That’s what I told my friends when Toronto started to chip away at a 9-0 lead. I knew the Reds would lose the game. I didn’t even need to watch the ending. The Reds wasted Jay Bruce’s 6th homer of the year and also Devin Mesoraco’s 11th. Edwin Encarnacion hit his 22nd and 23rd in his old stomping grounds. That must have felt good. And I don’t need any pat on the back for being right about the team I know like the back of my hand. Here’s another tip, the Reds are finished in 2014.

Angels 7, Rangers 3
Garrett Richards moved the Angels to six games over the .500 mark with an easy win over the Rangers and old Joe Saunders. C.J. Cron went yard off the lefty, Josh Hamilton collected a few knocks, and Mike Trout had his hitting streak snapped at 13 games.

Brewers 13, Rockies 10

Finally a Coors Field game that should be a donnybrook that lives up to the billing. Marco Estrada – the home run king pitcher – went 5 and 2/3, allowing seven earned and ten hits and still got the win. Justin Morneau had five RBI and Corey Dickerson had four hits and a homer. If I ever attend a Coors Field game, this is the result I want to feel satisfied.

Padres 6, Dodgers 5
Wow, Kenley Jansen blew this one after I was asleep. Just when you think the Dodgers are about to get rolling, Seth Smith homers a couple times and your once lock-down closer blows his third save of the year. Where is dominant Jensen? Also, Yasiel Puig left with another hip ailment.

Braves 6, Nationals 4 (13 innings)
The Nationals simply cannot figure out the Braves. This has been going on for how long now? Bryce Harper or no Bryce Harper, there is no figuring out the Braves for Washington. Stephen Strasburg was once again ‘meh’.

Yankees 5, Orioles 3
Carlos Beltran hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth off the Blue-Blood closer, Jeremy Britton. Hiroki Kuroda had a nice outing, striking out six in six innings.

Tigers 6, Indians 4
J.D. Martinez hit a three run homer, and Rick Porcello pitched the Tigers past Corey Kluber and the Tribe. Victor Martinez tagged his old team for his 18th long one of the year as well.
