Your day after wrap & recap

The notables from yesterday’s action in baseball….

Cleveland Indians 1, Boston Red Sox 0
Asdrubal Cabrera squeezed home Adam Everett with the game’s lone run in the bottom of the 8th inning. The Red Sox are off to one of their worst starts in franchise history at 0-6. Fausto Carmona and Jon Lester really locked up in a duel. Rafael Perez gets the win as Chris Perez locks down the save.

Milwaukee Brewers 4, Atlanta Braves 2
The Brewers won their third in a row over the Braves, with Shaun Marcum going six innings to earn his first victory as a Brewer. Ryan Braun hit his 3rd home run of the year in the 1st inning of Tommy Hanson. He added another hit later in the game. George Kottaras and Carlos Gomez both added multiple hit games. John Axford notched save number two in a game that saw the two Braves runs be driven in my Martin Prado.

Baltimore Orioles 9, Detroit Tigers 5

Vladimir Guerrero and Adam Jones both homered, and Mark Reynolds drove home three runs (he didn’t strike out, either) as the Orioles leap out to a 5-1 start. The win goes to Jim Johnson, as Chris Tillman didn’t fare quite as well as he did in his first start of the year. Brad Penny was again not all that sharp for the Detroit Tigers, who got a home run from Alex Avila and multi-hit games from Austin Jackson and Brennan Boesch.

Philadelphia Phillies 11, New York Mets 0
Roy Halladay went seven shutout innings striking out seven and walking only one hitter as he earned his first win of the year over Jonathon Niese and the Mets. The Phillies got a four hit game out of Wilson Valdez, a home run from Raul Ibanez, four RBI from Placido Polanco to help them to their 5-1 start. The win arrived with the news that Brad Lidge could be out until the All-Star break.
