Bruce, Edmonds hit bombs in Reds 11-1 win

For all intensive purposes, the Reds ended the Cardinals playoff hopes last night (with the help of Ryan Ludwig). With the magic number to clinch the division now sitting at 8, the Reds now just need 8 of 28 remaining events to go their way. “Events” would quantify as a game that matters to the Reds playoff hopes. Going the Reds way is a Reds win or a Cardinals loss.

Jay Bruce, to me; continued to be the story. Bruce hit a home run off Nelson Figueroa that really put the game out of reach. He added a single later in the game and scored on a hit by Ryan Hanigan. Everyone kind of got in the act last night for the Reds. It was encouraging to see Jim Edmonds back in the lineup, and he added a home run of his own with a few runs scored. As I saw Jim Edmonds playing in left field last night it’s a pretty comforting feeling to have a player that good (even if his best days are behind him) manning the outfield. When you have a veteran like that on your squad, you almost feel like nothing too bad can happen to your guys while he’s part of it.

Bronson Arroyo
did what Bronson Arroyo does. He came out and gave up an early home run to Carlos Lee, but settled in thereafter to pick up his career high 16th win of the season. For six straight seasons, Arroyo has now went over the 200 inning level.

As I turned the game off last night to watch 61* with my girlfriend; I fell asleep and had dreams of this Reds team doing special things in the postseason. They’ve given me a lot of good things to fall asleep to this year. They really have. I wish there was a way to thank them.
