Behind Bruce's 4 hit night, Reds come from behind to win

When you look back on the 2010 season, this is one of those special wins you’ll remember for a long time. Out in Arizona where the Reds typically drop as many as they hang onto, it looked like another night in which we would fail to capitalize on an St. Louis Cardinals loss.

Colin Cowherd, a dip shit who knows nothing about sports outside of the major markets; called our team a bunch of frauds. I’ve called them worse this season but I didn’t mean it. Cowherd should be taken to task by guys like Paul Daugherty. He’s the perfect man for the job. But right now the Reds are doing exactly what you’d like them to do in reply to Cowherd. They’re either not noticing or they’re telling him to stick it up his ass. Thought about writing Schrutebag a long-winded post here on Diamond Hoggers but he’d never see it. He doesn’t read blogs. Readers out there, if you have his e-mail address I’ll offer a cash reward for that tip.

I fell asleep listening to Marty last night on 700; getting texts from friends right around the time that Marty would have told us all that This one belongs to the Reds! You see, I stopped listening to the radio about two outs before the last out was recorded. And although Joe was absent the team that played and won 11-7 is a team he would have been proud of. Last night was a throwback night to all those August nights when I was a kid and the Reds were out on the west coast letting one slip away as I drifted off to sleep.

Jim Edmonds hit his first home run as a Red. It was an opposite field blast off Rodrigo Lopez. Jay Bruce hit his 12th of the season and 55th of his career. He also had a key rally starting triple that was a blast to center field and would be one of the hits that took place in the 8th that allowed the Reds to tie the game. Paul Janish, Ramon Hernandez, Brandon Phillips, and Miguel Cairo all had absolutely huge hits. The magic is totally there. The squeeze by Chris Heisey was like icing on the cake at that point.

The Reds are sitting pretty. It seems like everyone is catching Reds fever. The Cardinals get an off day today, an occurrence that will be rare for them down the stretch. If the Reds win tonight, they’re 3 and 1/2 games up on the Cardinals and there’s nothing anyone on this earth can do about it. This is the high point in maybe the last decade. If this team was headed home for the weekend, it would be an electrifying atmosphere at the Great American Ball Park. Since they’re headed out to Los Angeles, I’d expect that ratings will soar. I know what I’m doing all weekend. I don’t want to miss one pitch.

And now a song from the last time a Reds team this good took the field:
