Again Jason Heyward was the story in this one, or at least a footnote. Tim Lincecum improved to 2-0 on the season after giving up a 2-run home run to Brian Mccann early in the game. Pablo Sandoval led the charge for the Giants offense with a triple and a home run. Jason Heyward went deep to the opposite field with 2 down in the 9th off Jeremy Affeldt. Lincecum gave up 5 hits and 2 runs over 7 innings pitched with 10 strikeouts.
Chris Young, Chris Snyder, and pitcher Edwin Jackson led the offensive attack as the Diamondbacks scored 13 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Snyder drove in 5 runs and Young added 4 RBI. Jackson homered in picking up his first win as a Dback. Andrew Mccutchen hit his first home run of the season in the losing effort for the Pirates.
Casey Mcgehee homered in the bottom of the 9th inning to walk off the Cardinals. This came after the Cardinals battled back to tie from a 7-3 deficit on Sunday Night Baseball. Albert Pujols hit two home runs, the second of which brought them within a run; followed by a Matt Holliday homer that tied the game. Corey Hart, Rickey Weeks, and Ryan Braun added home runs for the Brewers. Chris Carpenter was hit pretty hard in this game, giving up 7 runs in 5 innings of work.
