Just the other day we were talking to a friend about how these Dodgers were built by a guy who we had a distant (and an emphasis on ‘distant) tie to. Ned Colletti has some Chicago roots and one of our best buddies from Chicago knows Colletti’s family. And Colletti has assembled a roster full of talent that should be strong for a while. He was rewarded for his work recently with a long-term extension.
Colletti resisted the temptation to trade away Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, Clayton Kershaw, Jonathan Broxton, James Loney, Russell Martin and Chad Billingsley in recent years for quick fixes and kept intact the nucleus of a club that had the best record in the National League.
This is good to see. When you get a guy like this who is fairly young and understands how to build through the draft and lock those guys up while they’re young and cheap. The Dodgers are going to be a force for a while even if they don’t make the series this year. We also hear Colletti is good shit so we’re happy for a good guy to have some good fortune.
