Today the Cincinnati Reds released their 2010 schedule. Everyone wants to know about Opening Day 2010. Well the good news is we’ll be welcoming the St. Louis Cardinals to town on April 5th. The bad news is they might be getting World Series rings here in just over a month. And we always get our asses handed to us by the Cardinals. But never mind that! Onto 2010 right?
As part of the Ohio Cup rivalry, the Reds will play in Cleveland on May 21-23 and host the Indians from June 25-27. The Royals will be in town June 11-13.
The Reds will make a West Coast swing to play the Mariners from June 18-20 and the Athletics from June 21-23.
The longest road trip of the season — 11 games over 11 days from July 1-11 — will conclude the first half with four games against the Cubs at Wrigley Field , three games against the Mets at Citi Field and four games at Citizens Bank Park vs. the Phillies.
There will be a nine-game West Coast swing through Arizona, Los Angeles and San Francisco from Aug. 17-25. The final road trip will be a 10-day, nine-game swing from Sept. 17-26 through Houston, Milwaukee and San Diego.
I’m not too thrilled about it overall. Interleague is out of reach for us, we’re not going to Seattle or Oakland anytime soon. The late West Coast trips. We’re not at home on the 4th of July although that could be a possible east coast dispatch for us to Citi Field. We shall see. If there is 90 wins on that schedule I don’t care if we play school of the deaf and blind.
