Today we honor a legend of our game, Jackie Robinson. Robinson is an immortal legend not because of a statistic or box score or anything he did in the way of setting a record. Robinson is a legend because on this date, he broke the Major League color barrier. For that, Major Leaguers will wear the #42 today to honor the late Robinson at ballparks all over America.
Heck, Jose Reyes even said he was going to steal home to honor the legend himself. Now that is a fitting tribute that will be fun to watch should Reyes reach third base in the Mets game today against the Padres.
So thank you Jackie Robinson for your contributions to our sport and breaking the color barrier so we could be blessed with watching the great African American talents who are sprinkled all over the game of baseball in the present day.
