Rest easy Cincinnatians, Big David Weathers is coming back

This should teach the Reds not to play poker with reliever David Weathers. The toad-headed slowballer who has thrown a lot of innings for the Reds with an ERA in the 3’s the past four seasons has accepted arbitration.

Right-hander David Weathers has accepted the Reds’ offer of arbitration. The team placed Weathers back on its 40-man roster after the reliever accepted its offer before a midnight deadline Sunday. Weathers was rated as a Type B free agent, meaning had he declined arbitration and signed with another team, the Reds would have received a supplemental first-round draft pick in June.

This means another year of Weathers giving up runs in big spots and being unstoppable for a few innings when we’re down 12-3. It also means that my buddy who I watch most Reds ballgames with retains his whipping boy for another year. Fun fact on David Weathers: he’s used the same glove his entire career. That knowledge and a nickel will get you a lot in life.
