Renteria is a Giant for the time being

Talk about a guy who gets way too much attention at this point in his career. Edgar Renteria has signed a 2-year, $18.5 million dollar deal with the San Francisco Giants.

If there was a Hall of Very Good, this guy (and his .290 average) would be one of the hallmark fathers of the place. He’s a fine ballplayer, spectacularly solid. But since he was a superstar rookie for Florida that ruined the Cleveland Indians in the 1997 World Series, he’s now made stops in St. Louis, Boston, Atlanta, Detroit, and now San Francisco. They guy’s just not gonna settle in and play somewhere the rest of his career is he? It’s only going to get worse. Something about the guy just makes him somebody your team doesn’t want to keep around too long. Don’t know what it is, but his track record speaks for itself.

This also reminds one of the fact that Omar Vizquel will not be back with the Giants in 2009.
