Remember When….

Tonight with the Washington Nationals in town, I’m reminded of a distant memory. Reds fans everywhere were sold on Adam Dunn and Austin Kearns flanking Ken Griffey Jr. in the new Great American Ball Park, and this would be the outfield that would be in place for the next 15 years.

Kearns & Dunn never materialized as a duo really. Seemed like we kept waiting and waiting and waiting for them to each peak and reach their potential, and then before we knew it; it was like a Lunar Eclipse. The time had passed altogether. Kearns & Dunn had jumped the shark.

Wouldn’t you know it, they’re not even both in the lineup tonight (Dunn got the night off due to a lefty being on the hill). But it’s still fun a thought to think of what might have been had Kearns have reached his potential in Cincinnati, and had Dunn been locked up long term like we were promised so many years ago.
