Eric Bedard going to Pacific Northwest

The Eric Bedard to Seattle deal is finally final. A horde of prospects was all it took to get the deal done. And it should have been a horde. Bedard is one of the best young left-handed power pitchers in the game. There really was no reason to trade the guy, unless your owner is a tight-wad, spaghetti-bender who forsees a huge payday right around the corner for the young star.

The Orioles received center fielder Adam Jones, reliever George Sherrill, and pitchers Chris Tillman, Tony Butler and Kam Mickolio.

The amazing aspect of this deal is that the prized prospect, Adam Jones, may not even be the best player when all is said and done. Scouts have been raving about Chris Tillman, and many believe that he’ll be the steal of this trade.

What I’m wondering is when will Oriole fans finally take a stand for what was once a proud franchise? Their owner, Angelos; has taken this franchise and ran it in the ground. If you ever want a shot at contending in that monster division again, it will take horses like Bedard to do it. He would have been part of the solution; if the Orioles were intersted in solving the problem. Angelos is in this thing to make money at this stage of the game, and it won’t be long before the Devil Rays surpass his franchise if they haven’t by opening day 2008.
