Brandon Webb spins 3rd straight shutout

Brandon Webb has done it again. Last night he threw a complete game 2-hit shutout against the Atlanta Braves, making it the 3rd consecutive ballgame in which Webb has thrown a complete game shutout.

The feat makes it the 12th longest streak of such in baseball history. He is standing at 42 innings in a row that he has been unscored upon. It seems that everyone is chasing Orel Hershiser these days. I don’t think he’s going to catch Orel, I don’t think he’ll get anywhere close, but the fact he’s been unscored upon for 42 straight innings is a testament to how nasty he is on the hill and how good his stuff is.

Think about how much better the hitters are even today than when Orel was having at it with his streak. They’re bigger now, smarter, stronger, state of the art tools. A streak like this is nearly as impressive as when Orel did it.
