Reds 1, Cubs 0

You can check out a blog from the game here. This was a game in which the Reds’ Kyle Lohse looked like an ace. 11 K’s in 8 innings, allowing 4 hits and no runs. The Reds got a nice 9th pitched by Mike Stanton (retired Jacque Jones), and David Weathers notched his 5th save of the young season by getting Cliff Floyd to fly out to left field, as he did on friday.

The Reds lone run was manufactured by Jeff Conine; who has been excellent in his role thus far for the team. Brandon Phillips scored on Conine’s single after stealing a base. Notable in this game was the absence of left fielder Adam Dunn. Dunn missed his first game due to injury since 2003 when he had to pull himself out of the lineup in the pre-game due to back spasms.

Another notable from the game was the fact that known Cubs fan and former Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn (who grew up down the street from me), threw out the first pitch. This is a nice gesture, since the NFL draft is less than 2 weeks away. Believe it or not, despite how gay Quinn looks there, he did used to play baseball in high school. His teammates would later go on to become teammates of my own. He looks stiff as a board there and probably didn’t touch 60 on the gun, but Mark Mallory could learn a thing or two about first pitches from the Notre Dame QB. Hopefully, Cleveland does the right thing and makes this kid a Brown.
