To most this game had a silver star beside it on the schedule for the day to begin with. Felix Hernandez the 21-year old phenom would take on Dice-K Matsuzaka at Fenway. This one had dramatics written all over it. Felix Hernandez delivered in a game in which Matsuzaka pitched pretty well, but King Felix simply remained off the charts.
Allowing just one hit over 9 innings, an 8th inning leadoff single by JD Drew, Hernandez struck out 6 Red Sox and didn’t allow them even an opportunity to be the younger and less talented Mariners squad. This guy is simply living up to the billing at this point, putting his team on his back in his starts with seemingly no end in sight. He hasn’t allowed a run yet this season and has begun 2-0. In my opinion we are looking at the next great pitcher in all of baseball. This should be the guy that all eyes are on every time he takes the mound and I personally cannot wait to see him pitch if I have the opportunity over the next few years in interleague play. I haven’t ever seen Roger Clemens pitch live, if I get the chance to see King Felix bring it, I won’t miss it.
